Symptoms often appear 3–6 months before diagnosis but are frequently overlooked. Here are the 8 main signs: - Digestive Problems: Persistent nausea, vomiting, bloating, loss of appetite, and unintentional weight loss. Stools become pale, greasy, and foul-smelling. - Fatigue & Weakness: Deep, constant exhaustion that does not improve with rest. Everyday activities feel overwhelming. - Fever & Shivering: Recurrent fevers, chills, and night sweats caused by inflammation. - Blood Clots: Increased risk of deep vein thrombosis (leg swelling, pain, warmth, redness) Can lead to dangerous pulmonary embolism. - Swollen Gallbladder or Liver: Bile duct blockage causes noticeable enlargement of the gallbladder and liver. - Persistent Bloating & Gas: Feeling full after eating very little, along with constant abdominal bloating and tightness. - Abdominal or Back Pain: Dull, gnawing pain in the upper abdomen that radiates to the back. Often worsens after eating or lying down. - Dark Urine: Urine turns dark yellow or brown (like cola) due to bilirubin buildup, even when well-hydrated. In Part 1 of 4 of Jeffrey Olsen’s near-death experience, American author and speaker Jeffrey shares how a catastrophic car accident killed his wife and infant son, launched him into a near-death experience, and led him to a Divine encounter in which he held his deceased child one final time — and was asked to give him back.
In April 1997, Jeffrey was driving his family home from an Easter weekend visit to his wife Tamara’s parents in southern Utah. An hour into the return trip, he believes he dozed off at the wheel. The car swerved, overcorrected, and began rolling down the interstate at 75 miles per hour. When it came to rest, Jeffrey was pinned under the wreckage, with both legs crushed, a nearly severed right arm, collapsed lungs, ruptured intestines, and back injuries. His seven-year-old son Spencer had survived, but his wife Tamara and his 14-month-old son Griffin had been killed instantly.
And that’s about the darkest place I think a person could ever be in. I mean, here I am pinned. I’m losing consciousness. I’ve got a hysterical seven-year-old that I can’t get to. Half the family has passed, and I was driving the car. I mean, the guilt, the regret. I kept thinking, “Can’t I get those three seconds back?” And it was an absolute panic. I mean, the horror, the terror of the whole thing. And as I’m in this absolute terror and horror of what had happened, Light came to me. I felt Light; it felt as if Light came and surrounded me and was comforting me. And then it felt like I was rising above the accident scene. Out of his body above the crash, Jeffrey found himself in a bubble of Light.
Tamara, my wife, who I knew was deceased at the scene, she’s there in the Light with me, but she’s very much alive. Beautiful. She wasn’t displaying any injuries. And she began to communicate. She was saying, “Jeff, you can’t stay. You’ve got to go. You can’t stay here.” And she was emphatic that I couldn’t stay. And we actually had a conversation. If I stayed with her, Spencer, our seven-year-old, would be orphaned. And for whatever reason, she couldn’t come back, but I could. And I mean, it almost felt physical, but it was beyond physical. Like, I felt her hands on me. She would like push my chest and say, “You’ve got to go.” Then she would grab me and pull me tight. And we embraced. We were crying. It was emotional. And we had the conversation and made the choice that I would come back. And that’s probably the most profound goodbye I’ll ever say.
The moment Jeffrey made the decision to return, he found himself moving through a busy level-one trauma center — but not in his body. Still out of it, he experienced a total awareness of every person around him. And as I moved through the hospital, it was profound. Everyone I saw, it’s like I knew them. I felt them. I knew their love. I knew their hate. I knew their motivations, their challenges. I knew everything about them, and yet I saw them in such magnificence. There was like a nurse that passed by me, and unaware of me, but I was so aware of her. I mean, wow. It’s like I knew her life. I even was aware of, and felt as if I had experienced it even as my own, the abuse she had received as a child. And yet, in that same instance, it’s like, wow, look at her. She’s here serving, healing, helping in a hospital. I saw them in this profound magnificence and, in my words, it’s like, wow, I’m seeing them as the Divine sees them. I’m seeing them through a higher perspective, through the eyes of God, if you will. And I loved them. I mean, I didn’t know them. They were strangers, but I knew everything about them.
In Part 2, Jeffrey comes face to face with his own shattered body, makes the choice to re-enter it, and receives startling confirmation that what happened to him in the operating room was not his experience alone. And that’s when I stepped closer to look and realized, goodness, that’s me. Join us tomorrow for Part 2 of 4 of Jeffrey Olsen’s near-death experience. (Beyond The Light (NDE))
